Yesterday evening, Angela D’Orazio – Master Blender at Mackmyra – was inducted into the Whisky Magazine Hall of Fame. This is one of the most prestigious distinctions the whisky industry can bestow in acknowledging people who have had a significant and lasting impact on the whisky industry. In addition to this magnificent distinction, there were also top awards for Mackmyra’s Brukswhisky and Svensk Rök/Amerikansk Ek.
With the first stirrings of Spring underway, Mackmyra introduce a new seasonal whisky, Äppelblom. A whisky reminiscent of spring and fresh green apples in both taste and design, finished in saturated oak casks which previously held Calvados. The whisky is a result of a collaboration with the premier Calvados producer Christian Drouin and available in limited edition.
In partnership with the rum producer Plantation Rum, Mackmyra has developed another single malt whisky, part of which is finally aged in rum casks from Barbados and Jamaica. The result, Moment Karibien, is a spicy and fruity whisky that leads thoughts towards warmer climes.
The UK market is in many ways a key market for Mackmyra. To help stimulate growth the subsidiary Mackmyra Swedish Whisky Ltd was established in April 2018. The investment means that sales and marketing will be conducted by the subsidiary’s own British staff. Registrations (AWRS and WOWGR), recruitment and preparations have been carried out over the summer.
The UK market is in many ways a key market for Mackmyra. In order to accelerate growth, investments are now being made that will result in, among other things, sales and marketing activities there being carried out by the company’s own staff. This new approach will be based on the newly established subsidiary Mackmyra Swedish Whisky Ltd.
Mackmyra’s latest seasonal release, Skördetid, is an elegant whisky with a six months finish in Masi Costasera Amarone casks, which results in a whisky with sweet, vinous notes of grapes, raisins and a herbal spiciness. Skördetid, which is Swedish for “harvest time”, is the result of close collaboration between Mackmyra and the Italian wine producer Masi, and is available in limited quantities.
On November 1st , Mackmyra Svensk Whisky launches it’s new winter whisky, Midvinter, in selected stores on the Nordic travel retail market. Midvinter is the first edition of a new stand-alone range to replace the popular Mackmyra Special series
Mackmyra Swedish Whisky and Five Eyes announce that an agreement on distribution in Travel Retail has been signed between the parties. The new distribution agreement will be effective as of September 1st and gives Five Eyes the exclusive right to distribute Mackmyra’s products in the travel retail channels excluding border shops.
Independent Swedish whisky distiller Mackmyra Svensk Whisky, founded in 1999, wins the European Spirits Producer of the Year title for the first time at the International Wine and Spirit Competition’s (IWSC) Awards in London. This accolade follows Mackmyra's two gold medal and three silver medal wins at the IWSC in July of this year, and is the first time a Nordic distillery receives this title.
