The sweet taste of Swedish spring in a single malt whisky.
Mackmyra Björksav (birch sap) is a Swedish single malt whiskyinspired by the long-awaited return of spring.
By including casks that were seasoned with Swedish birch sap wine, we have created a floral whisky with a fresh spiciness and sweet notes of vanilla fudge. Björksav is a collaboration with our friends at Grythyttan wine.
Nose: Floral and fruity with a light spiciness, vanilla fudge, sandalwood, cedar and toasted bread. Floral and slightly waxy notes of birch sap wine. Round and fruity notes of cherry, raisins, apple, pear and lemon.
Taste: A fresh and fruity spiciness with light minerals and herbs together with vanilla fudge, raisins, apple, ripe pears and lemon. Light spices of vanilla, toasted oak, floral honey, sandalwood, cedar, anise, white pepper and ginger. Round oak and vanilla spices together with a slightly oily texture.
Aftertaste: Light, spicy notes in harmony with toasted oak and dried fruits.

Grythyttan only use nature's own pantry with no additives, as they are completely convinced that the ingredients can speak for themselves. Their work shows consideration for both product and planet, from when they receive the ingredients through to quality inspection, fermentation, storage and bottling.
The Story of Björksav
In this year’s spring edition, Mackmyra has once again collaborated with the Swedish artisan winery Grythyttan Vin. Grythyttan Björk is made from local birch sap that is tapped just before the birch 'cracks' in the spring. Like Mackmyra, Grythyttan use exceptional crafting skills, show consideration and respect for nature and only use natural ingredients.
The fresh, delicately sweet, Björk (Birch Sap) wine has resulted in a uniquely crafted Swedish whisky that is ready to join the world of whisky.

Really like this Mackmyra! Since I have tasted it for the first time, I’m hooked. Super smooth taste and still has different layers in scent and lingers on the taste palate. The Bjorksav finish does it!
Having drank MacMyra for a number of years I always find their whiskeys subtle and interesting. Bjorksav I was expecting a summery light taste (I imagined MacMillan 12 with a few drops of water). It isnt. The first thing that hit me was that there is an initial smokey hit on the nose, not overpowering but definately there right at the start of a sip. This fades to the expected summery clean mid and after taste that trails beautifully.
Ordered a couple more bottles for Spring drinking - its perfect for a beautiful spring drink outside where its still a little chilly but you can feel summer coming... i.e. not heavy smoke like winter drinking, and not too floral like summer drinking!
In a certain way, I bought this terrific Björksav on a whim... What a good surprise! it is certainly one of the best "still affordable" single malt i've ever tasted in more than 40 years. My first Mackmyra bottle, but not the last.
I ordered a tasting whisky set from Mackmyra Sweden. Ans also got a 5cl free bottle of the Mackmyra Björksav ! Great value and a lovely set. I joined the online whisky tasting and tasted the Mackmyra whiskies. Especially the Svensk Ek, the Svensk Rök and the Björksav i do like very much. All three very nice whisky ans i certainly will buy a botlle ( or three ) from Mackmyra !! Proost and greetings from The Netherlands
